More of Jesus and More of Me

We've been talking about the reality that Jesus is not difficult, that life is very difficult, but He is not. What can make it difficult is my view of what's supposed to happen to me in order to make Him happy. I hear this statement often: “All you have to do is be a…” I hear it often. The statement goes like this:

“Tonight, I want them to see more of Jesus, less of me. I want there to be less of me, more of Jesus. As we mature, we want to see less of me, more of Jesus. Me less, more Jesus. Smaller me, bigger Jesus.”

Doesn't that just sound as godly as you can get? Doesn't that just sound, “Ooh, look at you, that is beautiful”? Hey, it's not anything! It's not a thing. It's not real. It's not what God wants! But other than that, it's the tip of the hat. I'm probably being more facetious than I need to be to make this point. There's only one person in history who was supposed to be less of him and more of Jesus. And that was not about his person, that was about his role. His name was John the Baptist.

He does not want less of you.

When I say those words that He wants less of me and more of Him, I'm saying that I don't understand what took place at salvation. A brand new creature was made. And so there's not this bad me that we need to get less of. There's a brand new creature and He wants that person so loud and big and visible. Because He says, "Where are you going to see Me except in him, except in her?”

That's how He's living His life in the world — through this relationship with a creature who has become new.

No more of this nonsense that I'm someone that He's trying to get rid of down to a nub. He made my personality. He made my person. He wanted there to be a John Lynch on this planet, at this time. He wanted there to be a you on this planet, at this time, with all of your unique chosen personality. He's not trying to get you smaller and smaller. He doesn't get glorified by making you smaller or you wanting somehow to get yourself smaller.

Oh, my friend, He gets glorified in you just enjoying and trusting and resting in this relationship with Him. That's how He gets magnified. Enough beating ourselves up, enough trying to get rid of ourselves. Jesus is not that difficult. And we can let go of us being difficult. And we can rest in these truths. This is what trusting is. Trusting that what Jesus said is true, that I actually am a brand new creature, and that He treats me like a brand new creature, and that He wants the world to see Him in this brand new creature. What a wonderful life.
